About me

Hi, I am Alexandra Hoyle, I was a mature student and in my third year of studying Textiles at UCLan, I displayed my work at the end of year exhibit in Preston and the following week it went to London for New Designers. I won the Degree Show Award for Fashion & Textiles, and 1 of my patterns won the international IDott Competition. I have taken part in work placements at Quink for prints, Adsa, Flair rugs, Standfast&Barracks and JRC London working for companies such as Topshop, Asos amongst others.

The design and practical skills of textiles fascinates me because I like that it is an art that can be incorporated in to everyday life. I am particularly interested in designing surface pattern for interiors and homewares.

I have lots of experience in different industries, though mainly retail and I have chosen this path because I would like to work in a more creative role. I have always been passionate about Interior design and my retail work has given me the commercial awareness and knowledge to form a great industry understanding.

My university final collection was based upon my home city of Liverpool. The diverse mix of people and cultures that has over centuries created a unique cultural spot that has always and continues to be an exciting place to visit or call home. My work brings together elements found in my wanderings of the city and pieces from the city's museums, galleries and library archives. This technique of picking up elements from all over and mixing them together echoes the realities of a major port city. My patterns aren’t recognisably Liverpool and are instead made up of many smaller elements that combine to represent a mixture of cultures and characters. I have designed a range of interior fabric samples and products such as cushions, plates and wallpapers. By being aware of techniques, materials and use of colour, my products can be recreated commercially and most importantly affordably for the masses. Travelling is a passion of mine I have visited countries as far away as Sri Lanka and China and extensively in Europe. I love to experience the less touristy side of these places and capture them on camera. I particularly like walking and the outdoors, making trips as often as I can; and I love to spend time reading.
